Regional film funds
These funds can give production and development support for feature films, documentaries, series and interactive games, and can also invest in productions.
Mediefondet Zefyr is based in Bergen, and supports productions in Telemark, Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder, Rogaland, Hordaland, Sogn og Fjordane, and Møre og Romsdal counties. The fund can invest in and support all kinds of audiovisual productions.
Filminvest3 is based in Trondheim. It provides top financing for co-productions with a regional producer. It supports productions in Nord-Trøndelag, Sør-Trøndelag, Oppland and Hedmark counties.
Filmfond Nord is based in Bodø and supports productions in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark counties. It provides top financing for feature films.
Regional film centers
There are seven regional film centers in Norway that support professional filmmakers.
Nordnorsk Filmsenter, based in Tromsø, is a funding body and facilitator for filmmaking in Northern Norway, and provides grants earmarked for development and production of short films and documentaries. The agency is also involved in 3-5 international co-productions per year.
Midtnorsk filmsenter, based in Trondheim, is a funding body for filmmaking in central Norway, supporting film projects and distributing grants.
Vestnorsk filmsenter is based in Bergen and funds filmmaking in Hordaland, Sogn og Fjordane and Møre og Romsdal counties. The centre provides grants for project development and production of short films and documentaries as well as grants for developing feature-length films. Funding is given to production companies based in the region, and to projects that draw on regional talents and resources.
Filmkraft Rogaland, based in Stavanger, is a funding body for filmmaking in Rogaland county, providing grants for development and production of short films, documentaries, animations and computer games.
Sørnorsk filmsenter, based in Kristiansand, is a funding body for filmmaking in Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder and Telemark counties and provides grants for development and production of short films and documentaries
Viken Filmsenter, in Drammen, is a funding body for filmmaking in Buskerud, Akershus, Østfold and Vestfold counties and in Oslo, and gives grants for development and production of short films, documentaries, animations and computer games.
Østnorsk filmsenter, based in Lillehammer, is a funding body for filmmaking in Hedmark and Oppland counties and gives grants for development and production of short films and documentaries.
Other sources of funding
FilmCamp, located in central Troms county, can participate in funding film productions that are intended for multiple media channels. FilmCamp can also co-finance TV dramas whose content and structure are equivalent to those of film productions and/or for the purpose of increasing regional development and activity. FilmCamp can also participate in creative documentaries.
Kreativt Norge/Arts Council Norway is the main governmental operator for the implementation of Norwegian cultural policy. Arts Council Norway functions as a cultural advisory body to the central government and public sector, and it administers the Norwegian Cultural Fund. Kreativt Norge offers counselling and support to help Norwegian art and culture to obtain higher revenues.
The Audio and Visual Fund administers funds to promote and disseminate recorded sound and film. The funds are distributed in the best interest of rights holders and as a compensation for the legal reproduction of works within the music, stage and film sectors.
